My name is Deborah Akridge. Like most people, I’m used to working hard and continually “re-inventing” myself.  So at an age where most people are relaxing, I’m working on my Masters and am supporting myself in a home-based business.

I was HUGELY skeptical before I took the step into getting into a home-based business.  But like any student, I researched what was available, got input from those involved, then found a group to assist me as in my dual role as student/entrepreneur.

I was fortunate in finding a MasterMind Group led by Dr. Ellie Drake, an entrepreneur and business speaker with inspirational strategic approaches in building an Internet Marketing business.  What she said truly resonated with me.

I intuitively knew that working for someone…even getting my Doctorate degree in my chosen field, wouldn’t support my family the way I wanted to.  To put it bluntly, I wasn’t making it.  And I probably wouldn’t have even read or responded if I hadn’t had to supplement my monthly income.

Little did I know when I responded that my involvement would become the source of my income once I saw how easy it was!  But first I thought about what I wanted…and didn’t want in a job…so I created several lists, starting with what I DIDN’T want in a job:

·        To be locked into a 9-5, 40+ hour per week job

·        To have to commute (and pay horrendous gas prices!)

·        To be at someone else’s mercy, and be subjected to politics and the uncertainty that comes from being part of a system over which you have no control

·        To live from paycheck to paycheck

Then I followed up with a list that outlined what I DID want…

I DID want…

·        To work at home (it made sense- I could work AND study!)

·        To make more money than I making now

·        To be free from debt; to start making money immediately

·        To be able to manage my own time (that was especially important); but most of all, I wanted …

·        To be able to give back to others what I had learned and achieved in my own business.

I wanted to be able to offer a variety of services to people who then offered those services to others.  I had no idea how simple it was going to be.
