One chilly Autumn evening, in the darkness between sun and moon, a wise old Cherokee and his grandson sat by their campfire, wrapped in blankets. The grandson sat on the ground, hunched beneath his blanket, eyes down but listening intently to his grandfather.

The old Cherokee was telling the boy about the battle that goes on inside each of us. He said, "Son of my son, this battle is between two wolves that live inside us all.

"One is EVIL.

"This wolf represents anger … envy … jealousy … sorrow … regret … greed … arrogance … self-pity … guilt … resentment … lies … false pride … inferiority … superiority … ego … and an unforgiving spirit.

"The other wolf is GOOD.

"It represents joy … peace … love … hope … serenity … humility … kindness … empathy … generosity … truth … compassion … forgiveness … and faith."

Which Wolf Will Win The Fight…

A person needn't be Cherokee to know the very same struggle goes on inside every one of us … you, me, everyone.

And through most of my own adult life, I found that the first wolf - the evil one - was the stronger of the two. Consciously, I was rooting for the good wolf, of course … but in almost every struggle between the two, the evil wolf won out.

Anger … guilt … resentment … these feelings seemed so much more a part of me than did peace … hope … or forgiveness.

It was always "the little things": Hurtful words spoken … feeling unappreciated … resenting the accomplishments of others … arguments, and grudges held.

Little things … that grew.

Little things that took control of my life and spilled over into every relationship, both personal and business ... that stifled my ability to love and accept those who most deserved my love. Little things that held me back for many, many years.

I tried to push these feelings away, to push myself away from these feelings. But nothing worked. I remained the same as always … and so did my life.

I was angry, bitter, resentful … and I hated the woman I saw in the mirror every day.

They say that when the pupil is ready the teacher will appear. I was certainly "ready" … even though I had no idea what to do. Then my "teacher" arrived … in two forms.

The first teacher came in the form of a business I began from home … and the leaders and mentors I met, all eager to share their experience and wisdom with me. Finally, I began to feel a little hope, a little confidence. I began to take control of my own life, finances and personal development.

Little did I realize at first … but I had taken the first step to saying good-bye to that angry woman in the mirror.

My second "teacher" was a complete stranger who befriended me, "took me under their wing", and brought me to a greater understanding and appreciation of a God with whom I had never really had a very good relationship.

Which Wolf Are YOU Feeding…
And WHAT Are You Feeding It?

Recall the story that old Cherokee told his grandson … the one about the two wolves battling inside every one of us.

The young boy thought about these two wolves for a moment … lifted his head … and asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The elder Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

I learned that it's never enough to just try pushing away from that which you don't want … because if you're not being pulled toward  that which you do want, you have nowhere to go. You need to find something with a stronger attraction.

You need to feed the Good Wolf.

And you need to feed it the right food. The wrong food will only poison the Good Wolf, and allow the Evil Wolf to get bigger, stronger, and win the battle for your life.

Feed the Good Wolf. Starve the Evil Wolf.
